On 5th February 2021, H.E Yoweri K Museveni commissioned a US$15million Kinyara Industrial White Sugar Refinery plant in Masindi District.

The refinery which is the first in East Africa constructed by Kinyara Sugar Ltd in Bujenje county Masindi district produces 60,000 metric tons of industrial white sugar annually, consuming about 70,000 metric tons of mill brown sugar as raw material.

It’s saving the country over $50 million in foreign exchange and helping to absorb some of the surplus sugar in the country and add more value to it.
